Sony has announced the W999i, the latest edition to their Walkman line of handsets. The slimline slider measures 12.5mm thin and offers, HSDPA , a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, a 2-megapixel camera, and semi-QWERTY board .

Japanese consumer electronics giant, Sony Corp. will discontinue its Walkman Bean portable music players in April, less than six months after the, kidney-shaped player hit the market, according to several UK media reports. The company confirmed the decision to UK newspapers The Telegraph and The Independent/

"We replace models all the time," company spokesperson Rachel Branch wrote in an e-mail. "At this point, the Bean is still available and I don't know when, if, or how it will be replaced."

Sony Cuts : Qrio, Aibo & Walkman Plant

As part of its ongoing cost-cutting and reorganization effort, Sony Corp. has cut its line of robotic Aibo dogs, along with another, more-expensive, humanoid robot called the Qrio, which was never sold as a product reports ZDNet

According to a company representative, more than 150,000 Aibos have been sold since they went on the market in 1999. But the overall company is in the midst of an historic belt-tightening, and the robotics unit didn't make the cut.

In other Sony Cost cutting news, the company, said Wednesday that by the end of March it will close a factory that began producing the Walkman music players in 1979 when it first debuted, according to Atsuo Omagari, a Sony spokesman reports S pi

Sony has revealed 'WALKMAN', a new digital music player that features an ergonomic design and an exciting range of intelligent features that allow the user to enjoy music in a totally new way.

Sony WALKMAN, available in two capacity sizes - 20GB (NW-A3000) and 6GB (NW-A1000), also features two new shuffle functions. By selecting 'My Favorite Shuffle', the device automatically selects the most listened to 100 songs and plays them at random. The 'Time Machine Shuffle' function randomly selects a year and plays all of the songs from that particular year that are currently held on the device.
