| Security company Sophos advises on a computer worm lurking in mass emails asking you to help the victims of last month's Asian tsunami disaster. The worm appears with the subject line: "Tsunami donation! Please help!" and invites you to open an attachment called "tsunami.exe" -- which, if opened, will forward the virus to other Internet users.
Sophos added that it had so far only received a small number of reports of the worm, which it said was not the first to try to take advantage of the Indian Ocean catastrophe in order to spread.
Sophos recommends recipients delete the mails and do not open the attachments.

| The state of Texas has filed a civil lawsuit in the federal court of Austin against Ryan Samuel Pitylak, a University of Texas student, and Mark Stephen Trotter of California for just spamming non stop. Texas is seeking millions of dollars from two men it says are responsible for sending illegal messages on the Internet. The two are suspected of controlling companies -- PayPerAction LLC, Leadplex LLC and Leadplex Inc. -- that sent millions of Spam messages pitching fraudulent services. An attorney for the defendants said the suit was groundless and the pair would defend themselves vigorously. The suit charges the operation with using misleading subject lines in e-mail messages and making misrepresentations in the body of the e-mail. No criminal charges were filed. Assets of the spammers in question have been frozen and a temporary injunction put in place preventing them from sending any emails, ahead of a hearing and a possible permanent injunction.

This ruling brought some joy to the VG Wort rights society who has been fighting for more than two years to get money from PC companies. VG now plans to take the copyright levy to every other computer company in Germany.
The landmark case means that Germany will become the first EU country to impose a copyright levy on new PCs.

| Surprise. Three new vulnerabilities have been discovered in Microsoft's Windows operating system, leaving computers using that OS open to possible hacker attacks - extends to PCs running the recently released XP SP2 (Service Pack 2). Antivirus company Symantec Corp. confirmed that unpatched Windows vulnerabilities could pose a serious risk for exploits via malicious Web pages and e-mail messages after security researchers published the details of the heap overflow vulnerabilities in messages posted to online security news groups. The flaws affect most supported versions of Windows, Microsoft has not issued a patch for the newly disclosed holes.
One of the three security vulnerabilities involves image handling. The other two risks are found in the Help system and in Window's ANI authentication.
Symantec suggested you make sure virus definitions include the Bloodhound.Exploit.19 signature and that you should block e-mail attachments with an .hlp extension, avoid untrusted sites or e-mail messages from unknown sources, and read messages in plaintext format.

Handtops is reporting that Sony is dropping the recently released U50/U70 from it's lineup. Released June/July this year the U50/U70 portable notebook would run you about $2000 , This cut by Sony has many speculating if this move is because of slow sales or maybe an upcoming model release. I am going with the bad sales speculation.

The PC-1 has a 600 MHz VIA processor, 512MB RAM, & 60GB hard drive. - MORE via VENT-BOX

Games system specialist Alienware has hot-rodded one of its desktop PCs with a homegrown version of Intel's Pentium 4 processor that runs at 4GHz. The new Area-51 ALX, introduced on Friday, uses overclocking, or the practice of pushing a processor past its factory speed setting, to elevate a standard Intel Pentium 4 chip to 4GHz. Because overclocking a processor can cause it to overheat, the desktop also includes a special liquid-cooling system devised by Alienware. - MORE

IBM's new ultra-compact desktop, the ThinkCentre S50, which was launched
into the space-conscious Japanese market The S50 measures 27.6 x 27.3 x
8.9cm, footprint that's 92 per cent of an A4-sized notebook, IBM said.
Despite the small size, the manufacturer provides a 3.2GHz 'Prescott' Pentium
4, though not in its Socket T form. Still, IBM reckons the units "rectilinear"
cooling system, which pulls air in at the front, over the CPU, etc. and
out of the back, is sufficient to keep the machine from overheating.
The S50 is based on an i865GV chipset with integrated graphics. There's
1GB of DDR SDRAM in there too, a DVD drive and an 80GB hard disk. Six USB
2.0 ports, legacy connectors and Gigabit Ethernet are among the I/O devices
included, but expansion is limited to a single PCI slot.
