HP UK has unveiled prototypes of a new display technology that they claim can lead to very large high resolution color displays printed on plastic. HP's system has half a million micron-wide pillars per square millimetre of display which force the liquid crystals to stay in whatever position they adopt when pulsed with electricity. This makes the display able to retain an image after power is removed.

The powers at Microsoft have commissioned the One & CO design firm to come up with some possible "Media Center PC" concepts, you know designs that would make the Apple designs look like a kid doodle - I am sure that was said in the meeting.

The designs shown so far include a wall-mounted version with a removable touchscreen & an end tablish design with a wood veneer. I like the wood veneer one - it is not replace iMac worthy but it would be cool to look at every once in a while - MORE via CNET

The Vaio Type X. Sony's new Pentium 4, 3.60GHz computer & home-server system will go on sale on November 20 in Japan. This 1000GB baby will cost you a mere $4700. The Sony VAIO Type X has six analog TV tuners that can record six channels at once for a week at 19 hours of programming a day, or five and a half days of continuous recording all stored on it's massive hard drive. It also has a regular personal computer tuner for recording a seventh channel.

Although there are no plans for this to hit our shores one can still dream -- and if you must have it, you can 1. Book a flight to Japan make the purchase or 2. order from an importer.
Recorded programs are displayed as a thumbnail TV guide that Sony calls Time Machine View. The shows can also be grouped by categories such as sports or sitcoms. The oldest recordings are automatically deleted unless they are saved to make room for new recordings. - MORE
