Gianfranco Lanci head of Acer, says Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system has disappointed the "entire industry"
"The entire industry is disappointed by Windows Vista," the head of the world's fourth-biggest PC maker told the Financial Times Deutschland in its online edition on Monday.
Never before had a new version of Windows done so little to boost PC sales.
"And that's not going to change in the second half of this year," Lanci said.
"I really don't think that someone has bought a new PC specifically for Vista," he added.

Microsoft has reported record third quarter profits. The software giant says the strength of sales of the new Windows Vista operating system helped the bottom line.
For the three months ended March 31, Microsoft said net income rose 65% year-over-year to a record $4.93 billion. The profits were driven by $14.4 billion in sales, a 32% increase over the previous year. Earnings per share jumped 72% to 50 cents.

RIM has announced plans to offer additional BlackBerry applications for devices, running Windows Mobile 6. The offerings will add support for "email, phone, calendar, address book, tasks, memos, browser, instant messaging and other applications developed for the BlackBerry platform."

Intel's New Mobile PCs will skip Microsoft's Vista in favor of Linux . Called a Mobile Internet Device , or MID, the devices will have screen sizes from 4.5 to six inches with a target audience described as "consumers and prosumers."
MID can be used for "staying in touch", entertainment, information and location-based services. Intel’s presentation specifically cites Google Maps and Web-based "office and enterprise applications" . Connectivity will be provided through Wi-Fi and support for wide-area coverage via 3G HSDPA.
