Hitachi, Ltd. presented a 13.1-inch monochrome electronic paper featuring a wireless LAN (WLAN) system and a secondary battery pack at a private show at Tokyo International Forum . The company is planning to place it on the market at a lower price than LCD panels in around April 2006, targeting applications such as signboards at public buildings reports nikkeibp.
The toner-based electrophoretic paper's definition reaches 100 dpi. Hitachi completed the product by mounting components including an IEEE802.11b WLAN chip and a Li-ion secondary battery pack onto the back of a panel. The thickness of the e-paper, including the secondary battery pack, is about 1 cm.

Garmin has announced the GPSMAP 376C. The GPSMAP 376C uses Garmin's GXM 30 smart antenna and overlays weather data on its display via XM Satellite Radio.
Features include a 3.8-inch diagonal, 480 x 320 pixel, 256-color TFT screen with LED backlight, a high-speed USB port to connect to your PC and 4-15 hours Battery life.
The 376C will display wind speeds, storm cells, NEXRAD radar, surface temperatures, forecasts and much more.

Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd., Fujitsu Frontech Limited, and Fujitsu Limited today announced their joint development of the world's first film substrate-based bendable color electronic paper with an image memory function. The new electronic paper features vivid color images that are unaffected even when the screen is bent, and features an image memory function that enables continuous display of the same image without the need for electricity. The thin and flexible electronic paper uses very low power to change screen images, thereby making it ideal for displaying information or advertisements in public areas as a type of new electronic media that can be handled as easily as paper.

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd, or Panasonic, Japan has developed a prototype of an ebook reader that can view pictures in full color. The prototype is equipped with a 5.6-inch TFT LCD XGA panel with resolution of approximately 210 ppi.
The product release is scheduled in July 2006. According to a Panasonic's spokesperson, the price is likely to set under Yen 40,000.
The company also plans to adopt the video reproduction function for the new reader, although what encoding method should be employed is now under consideration. With a video reproduction function, users can enjoy such contents that is only available on ebooks, for example, picture books in which the pictures are moving. The ebook reader is capable of reproducing voice and music as well, so the company also intends to distribute the recitation books with both the text and voice data included. The new reader supports JPEG still images, which its previous model does not. The contents stored in the memory card are read and written via a USB port.

Citizen Systems, Japan has announced a new PC-based health management system and an accompanying wireless electronic blood pressure monitor set for release on 8 July.
The "Personal Doctor" health management system manages measurements obtained from supported devices as well as user-inputted data such as weight, number of steps and body fat percentage. It will be sold as a set with the 315MHz-band wireless receiver at a price of 12,075 yen. Supported operating systems are Windows 98, Me, 2000 and XP.
The receiver kit connects to a PC via USB and is bus-powered.
The "CH-425P" electronic blood pressure monitor is the first product to support the "Personal Doctor" system. It can communicate wirelessly with the PC up to 8 metres away when combined with the "HA-100TX" communication cartridge (3675 yen). via Tech Japan
