jet-engine.jpgAlan Epstein, director of MIT's gas turbine laboratory has developed a chip based turbine that is designed to produce enough power to operate handheld devices, etc. -- so very soon (years) you could be saying good but to heavy batteries and hello to new small jet turbine powered handheld. The prototype jet engine measures less than the size of a five-cent piece, spins at 1,000,000 revolutions per minute. FireStore FS-4

FireStore-FS-4.jpgIf you are still saving up to get a camera with on board HDD drive where you can just use memory cards instead of dv tapes here is a little device that is should make you feel a little more high tech - The FireStore FS-4 allows you to dump the contents of your dv tape onto the 40GB (3 hours) or 80GB (6 hours) harddrive of the FS-4. OK with that said I am a little puzzled to the real use of the device maybe it does something else - when I transfer the contents of a dv tape I always keep the dv - What would be cool is the ability to record directly from the camera into that portable harddrive - cutting the dv tape out

Short Specifications.

DV Video I/O 25Mbps (1 x 6pin IEEE1394)
142mm(H) x 95mm(W) x 40mm(D)
400 g
40GB/80GB 5400rpm 8MB
90 mins recording time.
Windows98SE/Windows2000/WindowsXP/MacOS9/MacOS X

Available later this month in Japan for 99,750 Yen.
