Sony, Japan has announced the launch of a new Portable TV Rental service for owners of the Sony PSP in Japan. The steamy service is aimed at expanding the reach of the Sony Playstation Portable.
The Play Station Portable features a 4.3-inch 16:9 widescreen LCD TFT screen with a 480x272 resolution, button layout similar to the PlayStation with a digital control pad, an analog stick, circle, square, triangle, x, and 2 shoulder buttons, supports a Wi-Fi wireless connectivity that allows up to 16 PSPs to play together and uses a new, Sony-developed optical media called the Universal Media Disc (UMD), which offers game software, full-motion video and other digital content
Through the use of WiFi support within the PSP, users can now purchase and download video content from Sony's Portable TV network and store them onto their Memory Sticks reports Mobile Whack
Users will be able to download TV shows, music videos, trailers, and other video programming from Sony's website at a cost of $1 - $3 dollars each. The content will be usable for 1 - 2 weeks and then the videos can no longer be viewed.
The initial video lineup includes popular anime shows like Mobile Suit Gundam, and Noein, and Private Princess: Ayase Haruka.
