The Inquirer reports that an nVIDIA spokesperson was quoted in the Official PlayStation Magazine saying that the RSX GPU used in the Sony PlayStation 3 is basically a slightly less powerful GeForce 7800. When Sony unveiled its next-generation PlayStation last May, one of the slides displayed in the presentation showed that the PlayStation 3 GPU had the power of two GeForce 6800 Ultras working in SLI mode, at that time, nVIDIA (the developer of the PlayStation 3 RSX GPU) has not yet unveiled its latest graphics architecture, formerly code-named G70 writes team xBox. According to reports, the fact that a PC chip that is faster than the PS3 chip a full year before it's launch a huge NO NO.

CNN has a great 'what if' feature on the Sony PlayStation 3 price. A week ago, when Amazon started pre-orders for the Sony PlayStation 3 at $299, I mentioned how cool it would be if that was the final PlayStation 3 price, ( I am a dreamer OK) seeing that the Microsoft Xbox 360 will cost gamers $400 (the goodies package)
Last month, Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi reportedly told attendees of the company's PlayStation meeting "I'm not going to reveal [the PS3's] price today. I'm going to only say that it'll be expensive."
So the CNN feature goes off the deep end, wondering if Sony talked up a high price tag to throw Microsoft off.

Sony's PlayStation 3 may be equipped with faster than expected Blu-ray drives at launch, as it has emerged that faster format will be available before the next generation machine is ready for retail.
Originally The PlayStation 3 was to launch with a single (1X, 36Mbit per second) speed drive to run its optical media. But with the arrival of 2X (72Mbps) drives this autumn, it's hoped that by the time PS3 launches in Japan in spring 2006, faster formats will be readily available, with potential for the multimedia machine to run up to 4X.
