It's been less than two weeks since the PS3 was officially announced and there are already 34 confirmed videogames for Sony's next generation console. That's a lot more than the PSOne or PS2 had in their coming out periods reports IGN. The Playstation 3's components are being described with superlatives. For example, the new console is 35 times more powerful than the Playstation 2, the company says. Indeed, the firm has spared no expense in order to maintain its lead in the console market, confronted with the extremely promising Xbox 360 and the Nintendo. Speaking in an interview with Japanese website Impress PC Watch, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and father of the PlayStation, Ken Kutaragi outlined his vision for the PlayStation 3 as a media center, which excels at all forms of entertainment, not just games reports gamesindustry.biz. Kutaragi argued that the PS3 "is not a game machine," saying that the company has "never once called it a game machine".

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., has announced that it has produced the first 90-nanometer production samples of 512-Megabit XDR (eXtreme Data Rate) DRAM, the fastest memory for multimedia applications.
The Samsung 512Mb XDR DRAM can transmit data with up to 9.6 GigaBytes per second, 12 times faster than DDR400 memory and 6 times faster than leading RDRAM (PC 800) devices. It uses advanced 90-nanometer memory technology to achieve a peak operating speed of 4.8Gbps at 1.8 volts.
The memory device targets high-performance broadband applications that need advanced digital imaging or 3D graphics, such as the latest game consoles, digital TVs, high-end servers and premium workstations.

Sony Corp. on Tuesday said it would beat Microsoft Corp. in the battle of the next generation of video game machines with advanced technology that would outweigh its rival's early start with its Xbox 360.
Sony took the wraps off its PlayStation 3 game console on Monday and wasted no time in promoting the advantages of its new microchip, high-resolution graphics and next-generation DVD player reports Reuters.

According an article published in the May 17th edition of Japan's Mainichi Shimbun, the PlayStation 3 would sell in Japan for "less than 50,000 yen or each $465 US dollars . Sony unveiled its next-generation console at the Electronics Entertainment Expo 2005. The machine utilizes the powerful Cell processor, a custom-designed graphics chip by Nvidia, and 512MBs of RAM reports IGN. I am still in shock, and not a good shock. The Specifications, amazing , the look , I need blindfolds, ok it is not that bad but how do you go from square to round.

Sony's next generation hardware console, Playstation 3 will be available spring of 2006, just after the scheduled launch of Xbox 360 by Microsoft. If, and this is a big if Sony could somehow squeeze the Playstation 3 by Christmas, it would be a very interesting battle with Microsoft's Xbox 360.
High-definition and networking features are two of the PlayStation 3 high points. The device will support the 1080p HD TV standard -- the highest current resolution of HD televisions -- and will have built-in Bluetooth, WiFi and Gigabit Ethernet networking.
The cell processor used by Playstation 3 is jointly developed by Sony group, Toshiba Corp and IBM and is reported to be much powerful than the most powerful Pentium processor in the market. More
