Olympus today announced, the E-500 AKA the 'Olympus EVOLT E-500,' a new Four-Thirds System digital SLR. The E-500 features an eight Megapixel 4/3 size CCD and a 2.5" LCD monitor. The E-500 + 14-45 mm lens kit has an estimated street price of just US$ 799.

Canon has announced the XL H1 High Definition (HD) camcorder and 20x HD video zoom lens with Superior Canon Optics* touted to provide broadcasters with a low-cost 1080i resolution option for ENG, Documentary or Reality TV production. The XL H1 camcorder has three 1/3 inch 16:9 interlaced CCDs that capture images at 1080i resolution. The camcorder features selectable frame rates of 60i, 30 Frame and 24 Frame to allow the user to adjust to the assignment at hand and can switch back to SD resolution if needed.
At the 30 Frame rate, broadcasters can capture high motion, like sports with confidence that each frame is captured individually and completely. Filmmakers can utilize the 24 Frame rate when creating the look and feel of movie film. The 60i frame rate, meanwhile, delivers exceptional resolution for shooting environments like ENG or Reality TV.
The XL H1 HD camcorder is the first model to include Canon's proprietary DIGIC DV II image processor. DIGIC DV II is an image processor that can process both HD and SD video signals as well as still photos, while maintaining the correct color space for each mode.
The XL H1 camcorder and the 20x HD Video Lens with Superior Canon Optics will be available as a kit in November for an estimated selling price of $8,999**.

Sony has announced the Cyber-shot M2, a new stylish digital and video camera that offers 5.1 Megapixel stills capture and MPEG-4 movies. The aluminum-bodied Cyber-shot M2 features a Pocket Album mode which allows you to store 1,100 VGA-quality stills on the internal memory and a 2.5-inch screen. Sony, Japan has announced the "HDPS-M10," a new portable photo storage unit that has an internal 40GB hard drive.
Features include a 2.5" hard drive, Type 2 CF slot, and Memory Stick slot. Supported media types are Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, CF, and Microdrive.
It uses USB 2.0 to connect to a PC.

Sony has announced the Cyber-shot DSC-R1, a new camera that features an APS-C size 10.8 million pixel CMOS sensor coupled with a non-removable 24-120 mm equivalent lens. The R1's APS-C size sensor provides full-time live view video for the camera's EVF (electronic viewfinder) and LCD monitor. This means that the R1 can do away with the mirror box and prism arrangement of a a traditional digital SLR and hence have a more compact integrated lens / body design writes dpreview. Logitech has announced three new webcams : a redesigned QuickCam for Notebooks Pro, the QuickCam Orbit MP, and the QuickCam Pro 5000. All three come packaged with Logitech's innovative RightLight Technology (which improves image quality in low light), RightSound Technology, and Logitech's Video Effects software, which allows you to turn your image into a three-dimensional animated character writes Gizmodo.
The QuickCam for Notebooks Pro features a 1.3 megapixel sensor. The QuickCam Orbit MP also features a 1.3 megapixels sensor. The QuickCam Pro 5000 for the desktop, can capture 640 x 480 VGA video.

Samsung has announced plans to release four new Digimax digital cameras - Pro 815, i50 MP3, X15 and the V20. " the "Pro 815" a 8MP high-end DSLR with a 28~420mm zoom lens, the "#1 MP3" (i50 MP3) is a 5.1MP compact with MP3 playback and MPEG-4 video capture, the "X15", a 5MP digital camera and the "V20", an 8MP compact digital camera.

Nikon has announced the Coolpix P1 & the Coolpix P2 which feature built-in WiFi communication. The five megapixels Coolpix P1 and 8 megapixels P2 have a built-in 802.11b/g WiFi module. Both cameras will be available at the end of the month.

Pentax has announced the six megapixel WPi which can withstand submersion to a depth of 1.5m for 30 minutes (JIS class 8) and is also dust proof (class 5). Other features include a 2-inch LCD, 3x optical zoom, in-camera movie editing and a 1cm macro mode. The Pentax Optio WPi is available this month.
