Apple iPhone heads to Europe

Apple has confirmed that it'll ship the iPhone to a few major countries by Q4 2007. According to engadget UK, France and Germany will most likely get the iPhone. Multiple carriers will carry the iPhone. The rest of Europe will have to wait until 2008.

Apple says iPhone sales strong

Apple has announced financial results for its fiscal 2007 third quarter ended June 30, 2007. The Company posted revenue of $5.41 billion and net quarterly profit of $818 million, or $.92 per diluted share.

Apple shipped 1,764,000 Macintosh computers, representing 33 percent growth over the year-ago quarter and exceeding the previous company record for quarterly Mac shipments by over 150,000. The Company also sold 9,815,000 iPods during the quarter, representing 21 percent growth over the year-ago quarter.

Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO said “iPhone is off to a great start—we hope to sell our one-millionth iPhone by the end of its first full quarter of sales—and our new product pipeline is very strong.”

AT&T Paying Apple $200 per iPhone?

According to TheStreet.com , AT&T is paying Apple $150 to $200 per iphone, plus a $9 per user per month cut of the service fees.

"This is unheard of," says one money manager who is long Apple. "No one has this plugged this into their models."

"It's a pretty sweet deal for Apple, and not all that bad for AT&T," says IAG Research's Roger Entner.

Apple Shares Drop On iPhone Bad News

Shares of Apple fell 4 percent on Tuesday after AT&T issued initial subscriber numbers for customers of Apple's iPhone that were below analyst estimates reports Eweek

AT&T, said it signed up 146,000 iPhone customers as subscribers in the first two days of iPhone sales. Pacific Crest analyst Andy Hargreaves said that while iPhone sales figures for coming months would be more telling than the first few days, AT&T's number had disappointed investors as some analysts estimated sales "north of 500,000."

iPhone hacked

The New York Times reports that security firm Independent Security Evaluators has discovered the first flaw in iPhone's security.

Independent Security Evaluators's principal security expert and ex-NSA agent Dr. Charles A. Miller says

Once you did manage to find a hole, you were in complete control.

According to NYT's John Schwartz:

the site injected a bit of code into the iPhone that then took over the phone. The phone promptly followed instructions to transmit a set of files to the attacking computer that included recent text messages -- including one that had been sent to the reporter's cellphone moments before -- as well as telephone contacts and e-mail addresses
