The Register is reporting that Apple had more chip options than previously reported.
A chip start-up that created a high performance, low power processor compatible with existing Mac software had been working closely with the computer company for many months
Apple was looking for a new chip supplier largely because it was struggling to find a decent part for its key laptop line. IBM could not deliver the right performance per watt characteristics needed for slim, powerful kit and was struggling to produce chips as efficiently as Apple would like.
PA Semi - a maker of low-power Power processors - formed a tight relationship with Apple - one meant to result in it delivering chips for Apple's notebook line and possibly desktops. The two companies shared software engineering work, trying to see how Apple's applications could be ported onto PA Semi's silicon. When word leaked out that Apple had signed on with Intel, it shocked the PA Semi staff, according to multiple sources.
"PA Semi was counting on that deal," said one source. "They had lots of guys walking around in a daze when Apple went to Intel. They had no idea that would actually happen."

Apple MacBook reviewed
As configured by Apple, there are three models of MacBook to choose from. The cheapest, and least powerful model is nearly as capable as the original MacBook Pros (they received their own incremental upgrades this week as well). An Intel Core Duo T2400 processor (1.83GHz) powers this base model, and a 2.0GHz T2500 processor sits inside the other two. Unfortunately for lovers of glossy black Apple stuff, only the most powerful and expensive MacBook model is available in ebony. The specifications of the three base models can be seen below:

Apple has filed a countersuit against Creative, alleging that Creative infringed on its patents relating to the iPod's interface.
This is in response to Creative's earlier suit, which also claimed infringement of its digital media players. As it stands, Apple has about 77 percent of the digital music market in the United States, compared to Creative's less than 10 percent.

Apple Computer Inc. quietly issued a firmware update Tuesday for its Intel-based systems that users said fixed overheating problems in the MacBook Pro notebook, which has been plagued with heat and noise issues since it was introduced in February reports Techweb News.
The firmware fix -- available directly from Apple's download site or retrieved automatically via Mac OS X's Software Update mechanism -- was released without fanfare and with virtually no details. The update's explanatory page, for instance, neglects to actually say what the update does or is supposed to fix.
