Macshine has a mockup of something called the iPod AV aka the true video iPod. This image is fake.... but hey I love an apple rumor just as much as the next guy.

PcMag has a review of Apple's new iPod Hi-fi thing.

It's no surprise that the new champ among iPod speakers/docks comes from none other than Apple. It's versatile and loud enough for almost any listening needs, though it lacks video output.

Mac OS X hacked under 30 minutes

Zdnet is reporting on a hacking contest launched by a Sweden-based Mac enthusiast. According to the report this guy set his Mac Mini as a server and invited hackers to break through the computer's security and gain root control.

Within hours of going live, the "rm-my-mac" competition was over. The challenger posted this message on his Web site: "This sucks. Six hours later this poor little Mac was owned and this page got defaced".

The hacker that won the challenge, who asked ZDNet Australia to identify him only as "gwerdna", said he gained root control of the Mac in less than 30 minutes.

iTune your non-iPod media player

Itunes agent is a neat program resting in your system tray constantly looking for new MP3 players and other music capable devices connecting to your system. When a device it recognizes is connected to the system, it will create a playlist for the device in iTunes and it will synchronize that list with tracks on your device.

You may then modify this list, add and remove tracks, before you tell the iTunes Agent to synchronize the list with your player.

Apple files new patent for wide touchpad for notebooks

A patent Apple filed for in August 2006 , was revealed on March 2nd on the patent office website. The patent application concerns a wide touchpad that appears to stretch across the width of a notebook computer and may have multiple touch-sensitive regions reports Tuaw.

Apple's "true" video iPod will feature a 4-inch display

Apple's forthcoming "true" video iPod will feature a 4-inch display with a quarter-inch border, allowing the device to maintain dimensions typical of previous iPods, Think Secret reports. Prior reports suggested the new iPod's displaywould be 3.5-inches.

The new iPod remains on track for an announcement possibly as soon as late March or early April.

ITunes Movie Store ?

Apple Computer may be in the intermediate stages of developing an iTunes movie download service that would offer full length feature films to iTunes customers with a broadband Internet connection, AppleInsider reports.

A survey distributed this week through Coyote Insight, a Fullerton, Calif.-based market research firm, asked that participants answer a series of questions related to a potential "iTunes movie service" that would provide on-demand access to movies that could be downloaded to a computer or iPod.

"This iTunes service would provide access to 1,000 movies on demand which can be downloaded to your computer and, in turn, to your video iPod if you have one, or even your television if it is connected to your computer," read a description early in the survey.

Apple plugs 20 OS X holes

According to Silicon.com Apple on Wednesday released a security update for Mac OS X that fixes 20 vulnerabilities, including a high-profile web browser and Mail flaw.

The set of patches addresses a variety of security flaws, including several that could let an attacker gain control over a computer running the operating system software. The patch arrives after two weeks of intense scrutiny for Apple Mac OS X safety, prompted by the discovery of two worms and the disclosure of two security flaws in that period.
