Ken Kutaragi has resigned from Sony today. Ken was instrumental in the PlayStation line but with the current lackluster sales and image of the PlayStation 3 his image has taken a beating.
Kutaragi will become honorary chairman of SCEI, and act as future technology adviser to Sony's chairman and CEO Sir Howard Stringer.
Commenting on his current and future roles at Sony, Ken Kutaragi said: "It has been an exciting experience to change the world of computer entertainment by marrying cutting edge technologies with creative minds from all over the world. I'm looking forward to building on this vision in my next endeavours."

Sony has announced the HDR-SR8E, a HD camera with 100GB of storage.
The HDR-SR8E can store up to 38 hours’ worth of 1080i AVCHD Hi-Def video, accompanied by Dolby Digital surround sound. The camcorder can also capture 6.1-megapixel still pictures and comes with a 10x zoom lens and SuperSteadyShot image stabilization .
The HDR-SR8E will arrive in July.

Sony has announced the CineAlta 4K SRX-R220, a massive projector offering a 4096 x 2190 pixels resolution. Other features include 47,964 cd/m2 brightness, LMT-100 media processor which, upscales material and decrypts the content for projection, ability to hook up to your PC, along with your PS3, or Apple TV using the DVI port. £70,000

Sony has announced three new HD camcorders - HDR-SR5, HDR-SR7 and HDR-CX7. According to Sony the CX7 is "world's smallest and lightest AVCHD high-definition camcorder."
The 15 ounces with battery, CX7 records straight to Memory Stick PRO Duo exclusively reports Engadget. The HDR-SR7 features a 60GB HDD - which holds about 22 hours - 1080i , the HDR-SR5 offers 15 hours on its 40GB drive.
The HDR-SR5, HDR-SR7 and HDR-CX7 HD cameras feature USB connections and 2.7-inch LCD screens.The CX7 and SR7 offers 3 megapixel video sensors, and 6 megapixel stills, while the SR5 offers 2 megapixel video and 4 megapixel photos. $1,100, $1,200 and $1,400 price points for the HDR-SR5, HDR-CX7 and HDR-SR7.

Sony plans to further open PlayStation 3 up to independent game developers in the future claims Sony Worldwide Studios boss Phil Harrison.
"I fully support the notion of game development at home using powerful tools available to anyone," Harrison said in an interview with Slashdot.
"We were one of the first companies to recognize this in 1996 with Net Yaroze on PS1. It's a vital, crucial aspect of the future growth of our industry."

 | | Blu-ray beating HD DVD Format | According to Home Media Magazine, Sony's high-definition format Blu-ray beat the HD DVD format by 40% in the first quarter.
Blu-ray took the lead in February, and its percentage of total sales accelerated to the point where it accounted for nearly three out of every four high-definition discs sold in March reports Reuters.
Consumers are going with Blu-ray. Warner Home Video released "The Departed" the same day, February 13, in both formats. Between then and March 31, consumers bought 53,640 copies of the film on Blu-ray Disc and 31,590 on HD DVD.
From January 1-March 31, consumers bought almost 1.2 million high-definition discs -- 832,530 Blu-ray units and 359,300 HD DVDs -- according to Home Media Magazine. In March, consumers bought 335,980 Blu-ray Discs and 119,570 HD DVDs.

Gizmodo is reporting that Sony may may reduce the price of the PS3.
Sony considers slashing price of PS3 console
The assertion that Sony may reduce the price of PS3 is based on comments made by Ryoji Chubachi during an interview. He explained that the budgeting process for PS3 pricing and volumes would be re-examined as market forces and the competitive environment change.

The firmware 1.70 update for the PS3 is now available, Sony says the update will improve game play performance and adds rumble support for PS2 games and controllers.
Sony lists only the following few compatible force feedback controllers: Streetcar GO! Controller TYPE2, Streetcar GO! Shinkansen private controller, Hori Flight stick 2 and GT-FORCE Pro.
