Xbox 2 mockup pictures (fake)

Xbox-2-mockup-pictures.jpg

Someone with lots of time on hand, or a great love for the Xbox 360 AKA Xbox 2 has created a mockup on the next generation console compliments of a photo editor. It is pretty and that as far as it goes. Microsoft if you were planning anything close to this, please return to drawing board.

SHA-1 broken

Bruce Schneier AKA Mr. encryption in his blog said that a three-person Chinese research team, mostly from Shandong University in China, had been circulating a paper about having broken the SHA-1 algorithm. Paper not yet available to public.

"The research team of Xiaoyun Wang, Yiqun Lisa Yin, and Hongbo Yu (mostly from Shandong University in China) have been quietly circulating a paper describing their results:

collisions in the the full SHA-1 in 2**69 hash operations, much less than the brute-force attack of 2**80 operations based on the hash length.

collisions in SHA-0 in 2**39 operations.

collisions in 58-round SHA-1 in 2**33 operations.
This attack builds on previous attacks on SHA-0 and SHA-1, and is a major, major cryptanalytic result. It pretty much puts a bullet into SHA-1 as a hash function for digital signatures (although it doesn't affect applications such as HMAC where collisions aren't important).

no Sirius iPod

Sirius and iPod fans waiting for the announcement of that rumored Sirius iPod, got some good and bad news today, the good news is the rumor had some truth to it, the bad news - it will not happen, Sirius Satellite Radio CEO Mel Karmazin said he has had discussions with Apple's CEO Steve Jobs about the possibility of adding satellite-radio service to iPods.
"I've spoken to Steve Jobs," said Karmazin, speaking Wednesday morning at a media conference in New York. He went on to say that the "current thinking" at Apple is that "they don't need to put a satellite radio in their box."
