Apple Computer is experimenting with aluminum anodized enclosures similar to those used in the company's iPod mini digital music players In an effort to reduce the iPod Nano's susceptibility to scratches reports Apple Insider
According to sources, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company is so far believed to have committed to the transition away from the nano's polycarbonate-coated shell and towards aluminum enclosures. The new enclosures are expected to debut in color variations similar to those used with the iPod mini, these sources added.
Aside from the enclosure change, the new nanos are expected to sport relatively the same form factor as the existing iPod nano -- about three inches tall and a fourth of an inch thin.

Apple Computer may be in the intermediate stages of developing an iTunes movie download service that would offer full length feature films to iTunes customers with a broadband Internet connection, AppleInsider reports.
A survey distributed this week through Coyote Insight, a Fullerton, Calif.-based market research firm, asked that participants answer a series of questions related to a potential "iTunes movie service" that would provide on-demand access to movies that could be downloaded to a computer or iPod.
"This iTunes service would provide access to 1,000 movies on demand which can be downloaded to your computer and, in turn, to your video iPod if you have one, or even your television if it is connected to your computer," read a description early in the survey.

American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu expects Intel-related news from Apple's " special event next week
He also expects Apple will use the event to launch a world-first - a movie download service through iTunes. He said: "We believe there is a greater-than-50 per cent chance that Apple will announce its first, full-length feature films available for download on iTunes."
He doesn't yet believe the company will release the so-called 'true video iPod', however, he expects more news on the transition to Intel processors: "We believe Apple will take the opportunity to round out its Intel Mac portfolio six to nine months ahead of plan with a new widescreen consumer notebook (likely to be called 'MacBook') and entry-level Mac mini, both of which will now include a remote control and FrontRow software," he told clients yesterday.
"What will make this new consumer notebook unique and likely a top seller is its small size and widescreen cinema display. Pricing should be competitive in the $1,299-$1,499 range," he said.

According to a report on MobileMag, Apple Computer --of iPod fame -- is hiring RF engineers specifically those with EDGE experience. The rumor mill is going wild with speculation... It is rumored that Apple could launch an EDGE enabled iPod by this fall. This would be great ... one of the big problems I have with the iPod is not being able to download music whenever. This development could lend some weight on the “Mobile Me” trademark that Apple filed some time ago reports Ubergizmo ... That said the hiring could also be for the iPhone and have nothing to do with actual iPod player...

Fact: I am not sure where this rumor started.
Fact: Microsoft just seems to follow nowadays (not that this is a bad thing - once you do it better)
OK. Rumor Microsoft plans on launching a subscription-based Movie download service (think low rent Itunes [I kid) but for movies). The service would offer either unlimited downloads or one with a high limit for a flat monthly fee reports MacRumors
What would be really cool & a slap in Apple's face is if the service works on the iPod Video... I will go a step further ... wouldn't it be like so crazy if the service worked on the Sony PSP ... the would be like a double bitch slap....

PortalPlayer also announced that it has licensed Sun Microsystems' Java™ Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME) technologies to be included in its personal media player platforms, which are expected to be released in the first half of 2006. The new Mac mini is also said to sport a built-in iPod dock, a feature that was scrapped from the Mac mini Apple first introduced one year ago.
