Nokia has introduced seven new handsets under the heading "Simple Pleasures." Four new slide phones, including the 3G-enabled Nokia 6280 for WCDMA markets, and the Nokia 6265, Nokia's most feature-filled CDMA model to date. Additionally, Nokia introduced two folding designs and a traditional monoblock design. All seven models are expected to begin shipping in the second half of 2005.

Sony Ericsson has announced the launch of the K608, a 3G UMTS mobile phone. This latest in the K600 family of 3G phones supports all the major operators' 3G services, including video conferencing and fast downloads of music, games, videos and other multimedia content.

Nokia announced today that it is using open source software as the basis of a new mobile browser for its smartphone software, the Series 60 Platform. The new browser aims to enhance user experience when browsing full Web pages on a smartphone screen -- over wireless connections with the top performance in the mobile industry.
A key component of this development has been Nokia's cooperation with Apple, as the Series 60 browser will use the same open source components, WebCore and JavaScriptCore, that Apple uses in its popular Safari Internet browser. Based on KHTML and KJS from KDE's "Konqueror" open source project, this software has enabled Safari to achieve industry-leading features and performance. Nokia intends to continue its collaboration with Apple and actively participate in the open source community to further develop and enhance these components, contributing Nokia's expertise in mobility.

Monday, Sony Ericsson introduced five new phones in a bid to boost its presence in the low and mid-segment market reports Reuters .
"We are widening our range in the low cost and medium segment," Per Alksten, product market chief told Reuters.
Sony Ericsson, which is the world's fifth largest mobile phone maker, lost ground and saw its profits fall in the first quarter of 2005, in part due to a lack of new handsets reports BBC.
