KDDI and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company, Japan today introduced the CDMA 1X Casio G'zOne TYPE-R phone. The flip-phone styled G'zOne TYPE-R features include JIS Level 7 waterproof; 1.28 mega pixel camera, QVGA screen, and three types of navigation systems - EZ Tsuita, AU's signature service, plus EZ Navigator, a digital compass, and a service that guides you to your destination.
The digital compass, 1/100 Sec. Stopwatch, and round screen are the main unique features reports Tech Japan. The Casio G-zOne TYPE-R will be on sale from the end of July.

NTT DoCoMo, announced today the development of the 3G FOMA 901iS series, five handsets equipped for mobile-wallet e-money, ticketing and other handy mobile smart-card functions.
DoCoMo expects the new series to fuel the continued nationwide expansion of convenient mobile-wallet services. The 901iS is also expected to further boost the popularity of handsets equipped with FeliCa IC card technology, which have sold more than 3.34 million units to date.

The World Wide Web Consortium or W3C, on Wednesday announced its Mobile Web Initiative or MWI, during the WWW2005 Conference. W3C's Mobile Web Initiative is designed to improve the quality of the web experience for mobile devices.
"Web access today is so fundamental, that it shouldn't be hampered by wires," said Philipp Hoschka, W3C's deputy director for Europe. "Through this initiative, we're committed to improving the state of the art in mobile Web content production and mobile access."

Vodafone, Sharp and NHK, Japan have announced a trial model cellular phone that receives digital TV broadcasts.
The phone will also support data transmission and H.264/AVC movies, as well as a multi-sectioned screen, allowing the user to watch TV as they write e-mail or use the web. It will operate for approximately 2 hours. It measures 50 x 101.5 x 28.8 mm and weighs 133 g.
