Apple Computer is experimenting with aluminum anodized enclosures similar to those used in the company's iPod mini digital music players In an effort to reduce the iPod Nano's susceptibility to scratches reports Apple Insider

According to sources, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company is so far believed to have committed to the transition away from the nano's polycarbonate-coated shell and towards aluminum enclosures. The new enclosures are expected to debut in color variations similar to those used with the iPod mini, these sources added.

Aside from the enclosure change, the new nanos are expected to sport relatively the same form factor as the existing iPod nano -- about three inches tall and a fourth of an inch thin.

Case
Microsoft Developing iPod Killer

umm, guys last december, Creative unveiled Vision:M video the iPod killer. Apple's ipod is very much still alive.. Creative failed so miserably, they have resorted to lawsuits.

According to a Reuters report, Software giant Microsoft Corp. is laying the groundwork to compete against Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod digital entertainment device and iTunes service, sources familiar with the discussions and plans said on Friday.

Microsoft has held licensing discussions with the music industry to create its own music service, the sources told Reuters.

The Redmond, Washington-based developer of software that runs most of the world's PCs is also demonstrating an entertainment device that plays videos and music, the sources said.

That's all great, but as Google's CEO Eric Schmidt recently said on Gbuy

"It makes no sense to go into businesses that are occupied by existing leaders," he said. "We want to solve new problems in the payments space."

So just maybe if Microsoft could solve the problems with portable music they would be going in right direction.

Itunes agent is a neat program resting in your system tray constantly looking for new MP3 players and other music capable devices connecting to your system. When a device it recognizes is connected to the system, it will create a playlist for the device in iTunes and it will synchronize that list with tracks on your device.
