iPhone requires iTunes Store account?

Apple

A new email claims the iPhone will require users to have an iTunes Store account. Some gossips want to know why, while others see no problem as its free to sign up for iTunes account.

"To set up your iPhone, you'll need an account with Apple's iTunes Store," the e-mail says. "If you already have an iTunes account, make sure you know your account name and password. If you don't have an account, you should set one up now to save time later."
