The Beatles are preparing to sell their songs online after years of refusing to take part in the Internet music boom, according to testimony given by the head of their record company.
Neil Aspinall, a former Beatles road manager and managing director of Apple Corps, was a witness in the company's trademark lawsuit against Apple Computer (Research).
He said that the company was digitally remastering the entire Beatles catalogue, which would pave the way for selling the songs online reports CNN.
"I think it would be wrong to offer downloads of the old masters when I am making new masters," he said in a written statement submitted to the High Court in London earlier this month.

An ultralight autonomous aircraft that mimics the navigational abilities of a fly could one day become a real fly on the wall reports discovery channel.
The 10-gram microflyer, being developed by a team of researchers lead by Dario Floreano at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, has a 36-centimeter (14-inch) wingspan.
But it could one day be shrunk to insect size and used for search and rescue.
"A lot of groups are taking inspiration from insects but none of them have been able to reach that with an indoor flying system," said research scientist and project leader, Jean-Christophe Zufferey.
Autonomous indoor flight presents scientists with particular technological challenges that nature has already overcome.
"Indoor environments are really tough," said Erik Steltz, a PhD candidate in electrical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. "There are so many things to bang off of I believe this is the best approach out there to do indoor guidance for aircraft."

AirmanPika over at osx86project.org was able to install WIndows Vista (beta) on a Mac
His Story
OK I managed to come to the same basic conclusion as some others that Vista was exploding because it didn't like either the way OSX partitioned the drive or that it wasn't the main partition. I haven't looked deeper into it yet. Anyway I went through the basic steps of installing bootcamp, the firmware, etc and then started the install. When you get to the section where it asks where to actually install vista....well here's the main problem...you delete all of them. Even OSX. Yes this isn't a dual boot solution (yet anyway) but it does allow vista to run.
Things I noticed: The drivers CD that apple has you make doesn't work. It starts installing, gets to about where it starts installing various drivers, installs the video ones, and then goes stupid, rolls back the changes, and says it errored out. I haven't tried to extract the MSI that has the driver packages so that I can manually do it yet. Also I installed the ATI Beta vista drivers and even though they install fine I don't get glass and 3d stuff explodes in my face too. I thought I read somewhere that someone did get glass going but I haven't yet.

. A few benchmarks popped and the results are not very favorable to Mac OS: OpenGL is said to be 40% faster on Windows. Another test with Cinebench also revealed that Windows is faster. Of course, the OpenGL test has more to do with the driver (Apple writes it, I think) than the Mac OS, however, users won't care where it's coming from... Gamespot is reporting that the Nintendo moved more DS Lites across the Pacific last month than PS2s and PSPs combined.
Based on Enterbrain's March sales figures for the Japanese market, Japan's Mainichi newspaper reports that Nintendo sold 380,000 DS Lites during the month and 180,000 original DS handhelds. Both versions of Nintendo's portable system have been plagued by shortages--presumably the company would have done even better if its assembly lines had kept up with the strong demand.
Sony tied up second place for the month, selling 150,000 PlayStation Portables and 140,000 PlayStation 2s--strong results for a console that hit the market six years ago.

The Beatles' recording company, Apple Corp., was given an opportunity to object to Apple Comp.'s use of the apple logo in association with the iTunes Music Store reports RegHardware.. Apple Corp at the time chose not to, the iPod maker's advocate claimed yesterday. Apple Corp. received an ITMS demo in January 2003 - four months before the service went live, Anthony Grabiner QC told the English High Court.
Apple Comp. argues that it uses its logo in conjunction with the service but not with the content. It says its logo disappears when users buy a song. It maintains ITMS hasn't infringed the 1991 agreement drawn up between the two companies to govern use of apple iconography because the service fits into the definition of what Apple Comp. can do.
Apple Corp., on the other hand, maintains that ITMS is all about selling recorded music, pure and simple, and that this puts the service within Apple Corp.'s sphere of operation.

LG Electronics has announced the U.S. availability of its 71-inch Plasma High-Definition Monitor (MW-71PY10), the largest in production worldwide
The MW-71PY10 boasts 1920x1080p display resolution, making it among the first plasma displays to offer the full HD specification, about twice the resolution of conventional plasma displays. The unit also incorporates LG's proprietary XD Engine technology, which takes the low resolution of analog signals to near high-definition levels, providing consumers with better overall picture quality and viewing experience. This offering can be broken down into six distinct processes that help to improve brightness, enhance detail, and apply more accurate color and noise reduction with film-like high- resolution.
Advanced connectivity options include HDMI and DVI inputs, both with HDCP for digital connection. Multiple HD component inputs as well as composite and S-Video provide flexible options for a variety of source components. There is also an RGB input for PC connectivity. Flexible PIP, split-zoom and twin- picture features allows sub-windows to be moved, resized, swapped, and split into multiple windows (up to nine). With a 1,200:1 contrast ratio, the display offers a crisp, colorful viewing experience. The 71-inch plasma also boasts multiple LG technologies to minimize the likelihood of image retention.
A two-year limited warranty on parts and labor is standard with the MW- 71PY10. One of the industry's most aggressive programs for PDPs, the warranty extends two years from the date of purchase.
