
Lenovo/IBM has announced the ThinkPad X41, a new Tablet PC. The X41 Tablet is the smallest and lightest convertible tablet in its class, designed for extremely mobile users who spend most of their time working away from the office. This model has the ability to function both as a tablet and an ultraportable notebook, providing the flexibility to take handwritten notes directly on the screen with the Tablet Digitizer Pen. The X41 Tablet utilizes a unique swivel hinge which allows the screen to rotate 180 degrees to be folded back and used like a clipboard. It has a full-size keyboard and is fully optimized for connectivity, extended memory, and a top-of-the-line chipset.
Features of the ThinkPad X41 Tablet include the longest standard battery life of any 12-inch convertible tablet, at up to 6.3 hours on select models with the optional 8-cell battery, Wi-Fi wireless connectivity provided through optional 802.11 a/b/g/ and Access Connections, comes equipped with Microsoft's Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005. This OS builds on Windows XP Professional, extending the core operating system with capabilities that support digital pen input, handwriting recognition, speech input and the tablet PC form factor.
The new ThinkPad X41 Tablet is available with the Intel Pentium M Low Volt or Ultra Low Volt processors for longer battery life, Intel 915GM chipset, up to 1.5 GB of PC2-4200 DDR2 memory, and graphics capabilities through the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900.
The ThinkPad X41 Tablet will be available on 14 June through select resellers and on-line. Prices for the ThinkPad X41 Tablet start at US$1,899. Select X41 Tablet models are also available with the Integrated Fingerprint Reader for use in tablet and notebook mode.
Lenovo, China's largest PC seller, closed its $1.25 billion purchase of International Business Machines Corp.'s PC business in May, making it the world's third-largest PC maker.
