Microsoft recommends uninstalling Netscape 8

News Room

David Massy, a senior Microsoft program manager, said in his blog that users who install Netscape 8.0 and use IE to visit an XML file or XML file with an XSLT transformation applied, will get a blank page instead of the content they were after.

Massy gave two options for correcting the problem. One was uninstalling Netscape 8.0 and the other deleting the XML node from a Registry file called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet ExplorerPluginsExtension.

America Online's spokesman, Andrew Weinstein, said, however, that, "This issue affects a very small number of users who visit sites that require that advanced technology." Andrew Weinstein added that his company would not encourage users to uninstall Netscape 8.0, since the company plans to fix the issue next week reports News Rating.

Several people who posted comments to Microsoft's IE blog said the XML rendering worked fine with both Netscape 8 and IE installed.
