AMD's Latest x86 Opterons, Hp opts for Opterons

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), yesterday announced their latest updates to the AMD-8000 series x86 Opteron Processors. The AMD-8132 HyperTransport PCI-X 2.0 tunnel brings high-performance PCI-X 2.0 connectivity to Opteron processor-based systems. The processors now also come with increased throughput and enhanced HyperTransport technology. HP has announced that a new range of blade servers and workstations will be based around the AMD Opteron.

'This is a great day,' said Marty Seyer, AMD's VP and General Manager of Microprocessors. 'For a long time we have wanted to partner with a tier one manufacturer and now this partnership with HP will project us into the mainstream.'

Senior vice president and general manager, Industry Standard Servers, HP Brad Anderson told the media: "Customers want products that improve productivity, help make decisions faster, reduce time-to-market delivery schedules, and are designed to support virtual machine environments."
