this fox is on fire

News Room

According to published reports from online firm WebSideStory the Firefox open source browser from The Mozilla Foundation saw browser usage increase by 0.88% during the month of December 2004. Firefox now has a 4.78% browser market share, while this is still way off IE's 90% market share it is considered a big accomplishment for the browser since the first stable release launched in November. Over 19 million people have already downloaded the Firefox browser helped in part by a successful marketing campaign that the Mozilla Foundation ran around the time of Firefox's stable release. WebSideStory conducted its survey by incorporating sensors in major web sites around the world. Results after collecting data from 30 million users a day - Microsoft IE declines, Firefox gains, WebSideStory also concluded that people are actually using the Firefox browser after download. Recent trends have shown that online users have started moving from Internet Explorer due to continued bugs, security issues, spyware and viruses. Experts believe Firefox's continued popularity may eventually attract the attention of malicious code writers trying to exploit security holes. The recent discovery of a potentially damaging software flaw suggested the potential for FireFox attacks. Microsoft is developing a more secure version of the IE browser, which will be released along with the next Windows version called Longhorn in 2006
