Texas Instruments single chip solution

CellPhones

Texas Instruments today announced that it has completed development of a single chip solution that combines the radio-frequency receiver and transmitter functions of a cell phone. This announcement makes good on TI's 2002 statement to integrate the bulk of handset electronics on a single chip, including digital baseband, SRAM, logic, RF, power management and analog functions. The new chip set for launch via Finnish mobile giant Nokia incorporates TI's Digital RF Processor technology into a single chip an innovation that will lead to lower manufacturing costs and improvements like longer battery life and higher data transfer rates. Texas Instruments spokesman Bill Krenik states the new chip will allow Nokia to make slimmer, less costly models. Nokia will start using the new generation TI chip in its lower-priced cell phones in 2006. Nokia phones based on the TI solution will be marketed in high-growth regions such as India and China.
