LiveDigitally is currently campaigning for Kaleidescape - manufacturer of the high-end DVD jukebox system that copies movies bit-for-bit to multiple internal hard disk drives. The guys at Kaleidescape who have been working continuously with the copyright powers to make sure all was well on the legal front - are now being sued by them for some type of infringement (apparently the CCA says what the DVD jukebox does is so illegal). The DVD jukebox system runs about $27k for a low-end version that stores 160 movies. The "really" high price is due to the many licenses that Kaleidescape has to pay to various copyright folks to legally provide the service.

If you could afford a $27k jukebox just to store movies, would you be burning dvds to sell - I don't think so , you might enage in other illegal activity but hawking crossroad dvds - never.

While I am sure me ranting on how horrible this is would do nothing for their case - I will do it anyway I think its pretty sad for a company that plays by the rules to be f-ed over because someones panties are in a bunch. Maybe they think they will make some money. Hopefully Kaleidescape has a really good lawyer.
