Operation Fastlink take down Jathan Desir

26 year old University of Iowa student Jathan Desir who admitted to distributing pirated software worth up to $200,000 could face up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced in March 18, 2005. According to the Iowa City Press-Citizen Desir pleaded guilty December 22 in U.S. District Court in Des Moines to felony counts of copyright infringement and conspiracy. FBI agents searched Jathan's home on April 21 - the same day - the US government launched a worldwide piracy strike as part of Operation Fastlink. A joint venture between the FBI's Cyber Division and the Department of Justice's Computer Crimes and Intellectual Property Section to crack down on pirates.
