The Viper G.P.S. Tracking System

CellPhones

I mentioned the Motorola Body Control prototype which lets you control certain functions of your car with from cellphone - here is another little device that can do a few things via your handset - Directed Electronics's new Viper G.P.S. Tracking System gives the option of calling your car to make stuff comfortable for you - like heat etc - this could be useful on those cold nights.

Directed's basic G.P.S. product ($699) offers location and tracking via the Internet and updates about battery life and vehicle speed. Users can set a "geo fence" for a vehicle and receive a message if it travels outside the area. When the system is paired with the remote technology available in the company's security systems, it can perform tasks like locking and unlocking doors, starting the car and alerting the owner when the alarm is activated. Monthly fees are $4 to $12.
